Sheherazade and the City of Storytellers
IN THE LABYRINTH OF 1001 CANOPIES
A walk-through maze of 1000 canopies is the extraordinary setting of Theater Anu's latest production. You can experience two productions:
At Day go in search of the famous "City of Storytellers". Over 5000 kilometres you accompany the boy Yunus on his adventure journey through the Arab world.
Who evening returns, is granted entry into the festively lit tent city of storytellers. Through narrow alleys leads an endless system of paths with chambers of wonders, whimsical figures and fantastic stories. This fabled city is home to the most eminent storytellers who, in the spirit of the great master "Sheherazade", tell tales against the threats of the world.
With SHEHERAZADE, Theater Anu creates a theatre installation that offers a different view of Arab culture - an important signal in a world in which the images of terror and war are becoming increasingly dominant.
YUNUS, THE NARRATOR
Daytime installation
During the day, the labyrinth of hundreds of canopies offers a unique experience for the whole family. Visitors accompany the boy Yunus, who sets out to become a great storyteller. Starting in Andalusia, he sets out to find the mysterious "City of Storytellers".
The adventurous story becomes an "audio journey": The story of YUNUS THE NARRATOR is set to music in eight rooms. Interactive play activities, large painted canvases and lovingly designed installations bring the story to life in the maze. Anyone who wants to can read about them in their personal YUNUS book. The small booklet is designed along the way and enriched with Yunus pictures, letters and city stamps.
A visit to the underground labyrinth is free of charge for you and your family, and no advance booking is required.
THE CITY OF STORYTELLERS
Evening production
At night, the 1001 canopies are transformed into a completely different world: THE TOWN OF NARRATORS has opened its doors! Visitors embark on a voyage of discovery to places and mysterious rooms. There they meet the story apothecary Alef, who offers his services. Siradshid transforms the hamam into a dangerous djinn chamber and servant Amira tells of her master Sheherazade, the great storyteller.
The city visitors learn of many wisdoms that rest in the stories and they experience the power of the stories to speak justice. They meet the mythical bird king Simurgh and get to know the city dwellers in their function as unusual peacemakers.
Drama, dance, storytelling, illumination, sound collage and many aberrations open up the theatre world around SHEHERAZADE. A fairytale night - carried by the hope for a peaceful world.
