MASQUERADE BALL AT LUDWIGSBURG RESIDENTIAL PALACE to mark the Venetian Fair
A feast fit for the gods, a Dionysian dance

For the Venetian Ball, Ludwigsburg Palace is transformed into a place brimming with entertainment, decadence and vivid imagination – a Versailles in Ludwigsburg! Set against the backdrop of the Marble Hall, the Ancestral Gallery and the Baroque Theatre, an extraordinary masked ball unfolds, whisking guests away to a dazzling parallel world.

When the gates of the Royal Palace open on 3 September, a night straight out of another era begins: a Baroque celebration of encounters and sensuality, a game played behind the mask of concealment and revelation.

Culinary delights, selected wines from XX, opera singing and live music – ranging from Baroque to secular pieces – come together with a multifaceted programme of dance, performance and the art of strolling. An all-encompassing experience that places the focus on the encounter: the interplay of seeing and being seen, of seduction, courage and curiosity. The promise, behind the mask, of having the freedom to be who you truly are.

This Dionysian dance is staged by the artistsorganised by Theater ANU in collaboration with the musiciansby Les Matelots and dance master Christiana von Roit. At the start, guests are given personalised ‘evening tickets’ which guide them through the night and assign them individual programme items. This creates a seamless journey through the castle’s various rooms and atmospheres.

In the Marble Hall, dance circles invite visitors to rediscover Baroque ballroom dances and the joy of movement. In the Ancestral Gallery, spaces for strolling and socialising emerge, filled with eye contact, compliments and small, playful rituals. In the magnificent Baroque theatre, guests experience specially devised performances that play on shadow, light and seduction. In the Lapidarium, photographic tableaux vivants take shape amongst mythical statues: Dionysus, the god of intoxication, is truly present during these evening hours. Baroque games and sensual soundscapes brimming with poetry and storytelling exert an irresistible pull. Finally, the selection of the evening’s royal couple draws guests ever deeper into this intoxicating night.

This masked ball draws on the tradition of grand courtly festivities and reinterprets them in a contemporary form of immersive theatre. The visitorsinside are not just spectatorsinside, but are themselves part of the performance. Fleeting encounters give rise to images, stories and memories – a vibrant celebration for all the senses.

The masked ball at the Ludwigsburg Venetian Fair promises a unique evening combining Baroque splendour, poetic sensuality and Dionysian exuberance.
