Hofgeismar 2023 | Masquerade
The Baroque era is notorious for its lavish parties and opulent productions, during which various fields of art worked together to stimulate the senses – or, at times, to deceive them.
Playing with the mask is what interests the company in this production, by virtuously creating a masked ball as an evening promenade.
MASQUERADE begins as a family event in the late afternoon. Later, when the masks are put on, the guests will proceed to the festival area. There they will encounter games and small performances: An artfully designed cricket game, a masked theatre play as well as various “walking acts”.
When darkness falls, around ten different locations and walk-in installations will be performing simultaneously at 20-minute intervals. A parade of artists will be the opening to the evening part of the event.
The mask is the evenings lead actor – we invite you to the masked ball! Dance, encounters, baroque, music, decadence, dream and reality – but also the hunt are the co-players of this dreamlike ANU night!

The event will also take place during light rain (except in the event of severe weather, storms, etc.). We recommend sturdy shoes and rainwear. Please refrain from using umbrellas. The paths are not always paved. Unfortunately, this means that the production has a limited accessibility. If the event has to be cancelled for weather reasons before one hour of the performance has been completed, the ticket entitles the holder to admission of another performance date of MASQUERADE, subject to availability.
