The raft of the Medusa – On the border
The sound of the ocean. Foreign voices from afar. (composer Axel Nitz)
It is dark in the munich church. (Frauenkirche)
The cross above the heads of the people is covered with a projection screen.
From there a girl looks down on us. She is breathing, looking at what is happening on the floor underneath her right now (video installation Stefan Hunstein).
The main aisle becomes the processional path for various constellations of figures;
the large white columns become the surface for a bizarre shadow theatre: masks, silhouettes, objects, bodies appear in different groups and rhythms above the visitors heads. A parade of huge shadows combined with scenic depictions illustrate the tragic Medusa disaster.
Theater ANU creates, in collaboration with the artists Stefan Hunstein and Axel Nitz, a multi-layered performance installation asking about humanity in times of crisis.
A project by order of the Archbishops´s Ordinary Munich as part of the Ash Wednesday celebration.
