The town of Idar-Oberstein
Opening celebrations, Rheinland Pfalz summer of culture festival
7/8 May 2010
A production addressing the subject of Idar-Oberstein’s river Nahe and the elevated dual-carriageway road which was built over it in the 1980s, banishing the river to a tunnel and obliterating it from the town’s landscape for ever. Permission had been granted to block the road for two nights. The commission was for a production with the river as as its subject, as well as the art of cutting precious stones, an important tradition in Idar-Oberstein.
